War For or On Talent?

Recently a friend of mine wrote a fairly pointed column on a recruiting site regarding the term that is so overused these days "The War For Talent." His perspective was that it is actually a "war ON talent" meaning that there's so much talent out there but recruiters, HR managers and Hiring Managers are too arrogant/ blind/ stupid, etc...(fill in the blank with your derogatory adjective of choice) to see it. I, of course, posted my r… Continue

How a bad recruiter can ruin your deal.

I know, I know, before I get a million comments about being MIA, let me explain - I am busy damn it! Ok, now that we've gotten that out of the way, I want to talk about a issue that is very close to my heart and should be close to all of yours - The Candidate Experience. I don't think I have to mention how crucial a positive candidate experience is in closing your deals. We've all had clients that screw up the interview process by rescheduling last minute, making the candidate pay for their own… Continue

Advice to a TPR: How to Manage Your Clients

Having crossed over enemy lines, I see both sides of the recruiting game with much more clarity than before. I liken it to being in a smoke-filled room, with a strobe light and all the sudden, the house lights come on and everything looks much different than before. All the strange and wonderful people that were on the dance floor suddenly become much more average. The atmosphere has changed from one of mystery and darkness to one of clear light and reality.

In my previous life as a TP…

Recruiting Pinata Party

Ever go to a kid's birthday party that had a pinata? You know, you are blind-folded, spun around, handed a broomstick or baseball bat and told to "Swing!" I hated that game. Sure, some may find it fun to blindly swing a hard wooden object into the darkness and hope you hit something (or someone, if one of the kids at the party was one that shared their lunch with that boy you liked, maybe) and a bunch of candy pours out while everyone cheers for you. But, I really hated that game.

Firs…

Professional Pet Peeve #1

Declining an Outlook meeting invite without looking at the date. Sorry, I can't make this meeting tomorrow because blah blah blah reason...even though the meeting invite states the meeting isn't until October. READ THE DAMN DATE PEOPLE! If people would slow down for 5 minutes and read instead of being Mr./Ms. Johnny/Janie On-The-Spot, Fastest Mouse-Clicker West of the Mississippi, Ms. Cleo of Outlook Invitations, I wouldn't have to write this. But no, it must be a race to see who can respond…

Do you want to be a guest on the Animal Panel on Wed at noon EST. I'm trying to get 4 people who've been recruiters plus leaving one line open for other callers. It's not urgent. If it doesn't suit you that's okay. I throw out topics and the panel of genius experts argue about it. Let me know, okay? Regards email me
