E-commerce is undoubtedly the most talked about industry these days. The global B2C ecommerce sales are estimated to hit $1.5 trillion this year driven by growth in the emerging markets. This is a 20% increment over the past year. The majority of this growth comes from the rapidly expanding online and mobile user bases in emerging markets like India and the Middle East.…Continue
As they look for creative ways to improve their approach to , many HR offices opt to focus their efforts on the college ranks. Today, colleges and universities represent a ripe area to pluck talent cheaply and efficiently, and countless businesses are taking advantage.

Once a year something magical happens. The world stops. Stores are closed, and when you go outside, you can hardly hear any traffic. I really look forward to this time of year every year.
The world is frantic. We are always in a hurry and there is always something to be done. Our lists are always long and it seems like there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done.
In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we often forget what the holiday season is all…Continue
The place was a bit of a shambles and just between you and me my boss was a patronising prick. He’d seemed so nice; so approachable … during the interview process. But from day one it was as if Dr Jekyll had left Mr Hyde alone in the…Continue

Are you using social media in your job search? Are you using social media to find potential hires? Whether you’re looking for a job or looking for a new hire, you should be using social media as part of your process. While Pew Research estimates that 65% of adults use social media for their own job search, only…Continue
What a rough few weeks. You've probably heard a couple of things about me lately – I lost a friend / colleague, and I changed jobs. After nearly two years as a corporate recruiter for Zones, responsible for just about every department outside of sales, I left. Coming on the heels of a death in our department, it was especially hard to say goodbye.
The past month has been full of difficult conversations. I was not actively looking for a new role. Some might even call me a passive…Continue
I titled this blog first Monday primarily so I would be forced into finishing it and publishing it today. I've been meaning to blog for months now, and still have several unfinished works in progress sitting in my RBC drafts. So, in the spirit of my new year commitment to blog weekly (and to test the theory that I work best under pressure), I figured I'd start this Monday Musings blog about nothing in particular and everything in general.
2012 was EPIC for me, both…Continue

Talk about a catch-22! Let’s use Sally, the average Nurse Practitioner (although there’s nothing average about NPs), as an example. She has been a nurse for many years and has been working on her MSN for quite a while. The happy day arives when she has earned her MSN. She then sits for her national certification and passes. She is so thrilled now because she is officially a certified Family Nurse Practitioner!
Sally’s job search now begins. She applies for every Family Nurse…Continue

In a down economy it’s natural to assume that your corporate clients aren’t returning your calls because they aren’t hiring and therefore don’t need your services. How about when things turn around? The reality is hiring takes place in all economic states. The more…

So, how long does it take to find a new job? I have heard this question a lot over the past year.
The answer to this question is unknown as data, statistics and personal success is difficult to quantify when comparing the total population of people interviewing. Perhaps a better question would be “What can I do to improve my chances of finding a job as quick as possible”? or “What can I do to improve my chances of finding a job”?
Everyone has a different level of background,…Continue

What’s more important – having a good CV or a good cover letter…? The answer? Both! Cover letters are just as important as CVs because a good cover letter gets your CV through the door and a good CV then goes on to qualify you for an interview!
If you know anything about my background, you’ll know I fell into CV writing, cover letters and so on by accident while working in the media as the assistant editor of a magazine. Back then I had to recruit people (as well as everything else)…Continue

Social Recruiting finally went mainstream in 2011 with corporate and agency recruiters embracing LinkedIn and internet sourcing as a required skill for the modern recruiter, shifting away from job-board advertising to digital headhunting. It was also a year of continued economic uncertainty ending with fear of a double dip recession in Europe and beyond. Despite this we will remember 2011 as the year that the recruitment industry took its head out of the arse of the global recession and…

Do you remember recruitment back in the 1990s? I do. A typical day would start with the post being delivered, we would gather around and rip open all the envelopes, pore over the CVs, passing them around the boardroom table in Number 2 Argyle Square, Donnybrook, where I started my recruitment career with …Continue
